REFORM UK INAUGURAL MEETING 9 August 2024, Colliers Arms, Llansamlet DAI RICHARDS - WELCOME SPPECH 20240809A-WBIFMT-REFO-speech |
Firstly I want to say a massive thank you to everyone for everything you did to make our election campaign a success. Personally as a rule, as a competitive athlete, second to me is not a success, there is only one position in a competition that counts, and that is first. On that basis how can we call second place a success. We finished second you might say, that is not a success. Let's break down that result. 10,170 people voted for Reform UK in the Neath and Swansea east constituency. That is 10,170 successes and every one of those successes is down to us. Its down to our commitment to what is right, our commitment to promoting the truth and our willingness to work hard for the benefit of ourselves, our families and friends, our communities and our nation. This success is built on our energy, it's down to talking to people, spreading the Reform UK message face to face in the community and on-line. Its down to our willingness to deliver leaflets, sometimes on our own, sometimes with friends. together as a group, together we pushed ourselves to get the message out there to the extent that 1 in 4 people who voted in Neath and Swansea East, voted for us. We had 25.3% share of the vote and the second highest number of votes in Wales. What is next? when asked how we, the people should tackle this global crisis and the inability of governments to govern appropriately Whitney Webb, an exceptional governance analyst stated that............ "We should take responsibility for what we need to survive and what our communities need to survive. We need to get as local as possible and not be so dependent on these people at the national level or assume that one person can fix everything, because that hasn't worked. Things are more complicated now than they have been in a very long time and can we really wait for the right person and put all our trust in this theoretical one person who is going to save everything, I don't think so, I think that time is better spent learning how to do some stuff yourself, taking responsibility for your own life and your well being and your families well being" In effect, what she is saying is that Nigel Farage and Richard Tice are good people, they are good leaders, but they are up against it because they have no power as such to deal with the problems of our broken country, they do not have the numbers. Reform UK have 5 MPs and we need to strive for more elected officials. We need now to look forward to more elections to elect Senedd members and local councillors and in between elections we need to be talking to people and learning about government systems, how they work and how corruption is common place in every level of government including the regulatory authorities such as the police and legal system. By understanding government we can replace corrupt politicians with those of our party. Political figureheads who have integrity and will stand up for what is right. Our 5 MPs can make a noise in government, but if we want to make a real change, then its up to us, the local people to tackle governance at grass roots level, at community level to mend our broken communities. Its up to us to work locally to fix the problems, but to do so, we need to generate the numbers required to win elections. There are 10,170 people out there in this constituency who want us to succeed in government and many of those will be eager to help, they just don't have the connections to join us yet. Let's get out there and make those connections. If we can succeed in recruiting just 1% of those people to join our team of volunteers then that's more than a 100 people extra on our team. Let's look to gain volunteers and voters, let's get out there and let's continue our good work in taking Reform UK to the people so that together we can mend our Broken Britain. |
