Key roles
1. Interim Chair
e party has begun identifying trusted individuals with a proven track-record in the party to take the
lead in forming pilot Branches. ese people will be recognised as the interim Branch Chair in their
constituency.
is is a provisional position.
e interim Chair has the ultimate responsibility for running the branch. ey are the first point of
contact for HQ in the constituency.
e interim Chair is responsible for ensuring the interim officers carry out their duties – including:
• creating the Campaign Plan (a template is in production to guide this process)
• organising campaign activities to meet the objectives of the Campaign Plan
• signing up new supporters
• converting supporters into members
• when the time is right, to raise funds (see Treasurer’s role)
• identifying suitable candidates for elections
• involving local members and supporters in the activities of the pilot branch.
e interim Chair has the authority to convene a meeting of members and supporters to establish a pilot
branch.
2. Interim Campaign Co-Ordinator
e Campaign Co-ordinator’s role will involve:
• Leading on the creation of the Campaign Plan for the constituency, and then project-managing
the delivery of the Campaign Plan
• Within this, creating a campaign schedule setting out dates for key campaign activities, primarily
door-knocking and delivery of literature
• Mobilising the volunteers and members to take part in campaign activities
• Ensuring best-practice campaign techniques set out by the centre are deployed at local level
3. Interim Deputy Chair
e interim Deputy Chair supports the interim Chair, deputising where needed and taking on specific
tasks as they arise.
Like the interim Chair’s role, the Deputy Chair has a leading role in ensuring the branch is successful,
including identifying problems and finding solutions as quickly as possible.
By supporting the other officers in their roles, the Deputy Chair not only contributes heavily to the
success of the branch but also ensures they are in the best place possible to step in for the Chair when
needed.
4. Interim Treasurer
The Treasurer will be responsible for the administration of the branch’s finances.
It is important to note that the pilot branches being created now are provisional. Only once the revised
Constitution is published will branches be able to become official. Only official branches can be registered
as accounting units with the Electoral Commission. Until this time, branches cannot collect funds or set
up bank accounts.
e party will be providing training and guidance for those taking on the Treasurer’s role, to ensure they
have the knowledge and tools to meet the requirements of the role.
It is, however, important that branches begin identifying people suitable for the role now.
5. Interim Secretary
e Secretary is an important position, taking the lead on:
• branch administration
• organising meetings
• taking minutes of meetings
• working with the Treasurer on membership records
• assisting with the nomination of candidates.
