DIC PENDERYN 190 ANNIVERSARY MULTI-SPORT ADVENTURE ABERAVON ROUND THE PIER SWIM 2021

The 190th anniversary of Dic Penderyn has been featured in my diary for a while now and I knew I had to do something to commemorate it so I woke up with a plan already formed in my mind to place Welsh poppies on the grave of this martyr. I've been drawn to life and death of Dic Penderyn for quite a while now, I can empathise with him in my own little small way, I am fighting 'system purpose corruption' and Dic died as a result of the failure of the British Government to support the working class from the ravages of the Industrial Revolution. My adventure incorporated the Aberavon Round the Pier Swim, an annual event which didn't take place last year and this year because of COVID19. The story of this adventure can be found on the following Youtube video.

15 August 2021 - Fan Llia sunset walk

75.jpg (40416 bytes)

It was a miserable day but checking the weather charts I saw that there was potentially a great sunset about to happen so I headed up the sunshine mountain (Fan Llia) to see if I could get the sun setting over the Black Mountain. The timings were slightly off and the weather was pretty dismal for the majority of my walk but the clouds opened up with 5 minutes to sunset and there was a hint of pink above Fan Nedd. The clouds came back post sunset so I headed off the mountain to avoid being up there in the dark and by the time I got to the Blaen Llia at the bottom of the mountain there were some dark pink clouds hovering above Fan Llia, the moon was out and the skies had cleared which meant that I probably missed a dramatic post sunset event performance in the distance. Oh well, maybe next time...........

22 August 2021 - Fan Dringarth & Fan Llia sunset walk

It was a clear evening and also a full moon so I headed off into the Beacons for a walk around the back of Fan Llia & Fan Dringarth alongside Ystradfellte Reservoir. The sunset photos of the sun setting alongside the Black Mountain were taken just off the top of Fan Dringarth.

29 August 2021 - Fisherman at sunset on Aberavon Beach

For the third night in a row I headed to Aberavon Beach for a sunset walk. On the way I met Richard & Amanda Stoneham from Gravesend in Kent. They were visiting a relative and staying in Baglan. They were waxing lyrical about how great Aberavon Beach is and the quality of the beaches in general in the area. Thanks both for the great chat.
