WALK AROUND WALES - Leg 2 - Crofty to Llanrhidian

 

Rule number 1 - never forget your camera - unfortunately I was concentrating on rules 2 (phone), 3 (keys) & 4 (wallet) to remember number 1, hence no photos but I have some on file which I will add at a later date.........

  • Following the single track coast road - there are regular notices to the right warning of possible explosive devices, this area forms part of military firing ranges. The marshes are grazed by horses & sheep and were featured on the BBC programme 'Coast'. The sheep apparently have a salty taste. Passing 2 pubs in the village of Llanrhidian before turning right along lane, up hill and eventually onto a public footpath through farms.  
  
487 919  pub The Greyhound - the lane onto the hill and ground just beyond the hill can be quite muddy !!! 
491 906 burial chamber Arthur's Stone - also known as Maen Ceti.
497 900 Holy Well shown on the map as a Holy Well - this is just a spring - not a lot to see here. If you haven't walked the Cefn Bryn ridge before then you should head up and do it ! 
512 914 tumulus Pen-y-Crug - neolithic burial chamber.
  
530 933 footpath/road junction Through farms and along the across the Welsh moor on the Gower Way footpath. Cutting down through the lanes and back to Crofty.
